About Absent Theatre

Absent Theatre is the creative partnership between playwright Eleanor Rodda and director Amy Gunn. Since meeting at the University of Sheffield in 2009, the pair are dedicated to the staging of Rodda's new writing, directed by Gunn.

The company, bearing the name Absent Theatre, launched in January 2012, with a performance of gallery installation work; Lost/Faith/Art at The Parlour Studios and Project Space.
Since this performance Absent Theatre has staged work at The Tristan Bates Theatre, The Brockley Jack Theatre, The Battersea Barge.
Absent Theatre collaborate with emerging talent in London as well as working with French artists and performers.

Amy Gunn: Artistic Director
Since graduating from the University of Sheffield, Amy has directed productions in Sheffield, London and Edinburgh. Previous work includes plays by Howard Barker, Sarah Kane and Shakespeare, in addition to several new writing projects, including an upcoming show at The King's Head Theatre.

Amy also directs with Plain Sight, another emerging company which stages new forms of performance for unconventional theatre audiences.

In addition to directing, Amy works as a stage manager in London.

 Eleanor Rodda: Playwright in Residence
Eleanor is about to graduate from Goldsmiths College, University of London in a Masters in Writing for Performance, following a rehearsed reading of full length piece 'On Beauty' at The Soho Theatre. Her studies to date (including a BA in English and Drama at The University of Sheffield) have all had aspects of philosophy and this interest is a heavy influence in her work. Eleanor has written and performed for The Crucible in Sheffield as part of the Youth Associate Network, and published performance text for The University of Sheffield. As Absent Theatre, Eleanor's work has been performed at The Tristan Bates Theatre, The Brockley Jack Theatre and The Battersea Barge. Her second work with Absent, Old Rabbis in the Sky has since been translated and presented as a rehearsed reading at the Avignon Festival, France.
